Breed Standard
General Appearance:
The
Newfoundland is a sweet dispositioned dog. He is a very devoted companion,
who is at home on land, or in water. He possesses natural lifesaving abilities.
The Newfoundland has dignity, and carries his head very proudly.
Size:
The Newfoundland is a large dog, males are 28" high and weigh about 150
lbs. Females are 26" high and weigh 120 lbs.
Coat:
The adult Newfoundland has a water resistant, double coat. The outer coat
is long and full. Either straight, or with a wave. The undercoat is soft and
dense.
Color:
Black is the most common color. Landseer, which is a white dog, with a pattern of
black markings. Newfoundlands, also come in brown and grey.
